    HATTON TEMPTED BY KHAN CARROT
ABOVE: Ricky Hatton is said to be considering a final fight against Amir Kahn

18th June 2009 By Mauro Galluzzo for dailystar.co.uk

THE prospect of a bout between British boxers to dwarf even Nigel Benn v Chris Eubank is likely to persuade Ricky Hatton to keep fighting for the time being at least.

Just six months ago, the prospect of a match-up with Amir Khan was unthinkable to both parties, who get on well away from the ring.

But with Hatton's career having dropped a couple of notches since his defeat to Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas, sources close to his camp say the Manchester fighter is keeping a close eye on Khan's forthcoming contest with Andreas Kotelnik.

Khan has a shot, on July 18 for the WBA light-welterweight title and the prospect of a money-spinning title fight is one of the carrots which Hatton, currently on holiday pondering his future, is being lured by.

A much-anticipated rematch between Benn and Eubank was held at Old Trafford in 1993 and watched by more than 42,000 people.

That would be the perfect neutral venue for Hatton, a Manchester City fan, and Khan, a Bolton supporter, and in its current guise could hold 55,000 for a boxing event, according to a Manchester United estimate.

Khan has feigned disinterest in the fight, claiming he is "not bothered" by a confrontation with Hatton. But at the same time Olympic silver medallist Khan admitted it would be "brilliant"

Wouldn't mind this match myself. I just hope if Ricky does win, that he doesn't expect another shot at a p4p great.
