    POONSAWAT KEEPS WBA 122LB BELT

    January 11, 2010

WBA super-bantam champ Poonsawat Kratingdaeng-gym (40-1, 28 KOs), 122, Thailand, continually showed his persistent attack in the close range, displayed his abundant stamina and pounded out a majority but well-received decision over previously unbeaten Satoshi Hosono (16-1, 12 KOs), 122, over twelve see-saw rounds on Monday in Tokyo, Japan.

The official tallies were as follows: Tom Miller (US) 115-113, Michael Lee (Korea) 117-113, both for the champ, and Raul Caiz Sr. (US) 114-114. The referee was Rafael Ramos (US).

It looked like a couple of tiny bulls kept swapping punches from the outset to the end. But it was the more aggressive and energetic champ that dominated a bit more rounds by slight margins in a close affair. Poonsawat, three years his senior at 29, showed his experience and ring-craft in connecting with short left hooks and right uppercuts to the face with better precision than Hosono.

    UCHIYAMA DETHRONES SALGADO

    January 11, 2010

Unbeaten hard-puncher Takashi Uchiyama (14-0, 11 KOs), 130, impressively captured the WBA super-feather belt when he took the initiative with his good left leads from the start, piled up points and finally caught defending champ Juan Carlos Salgado (22-1-1, 16 KOs), a previously unbeaten Mexican, en route to a fine stoppage at 2:48 of the twelfth and final round on Monday in Tokyo, Japan.

Uchiyama’s explosive right dropped the fading champ midway in the last session. Referee Raul Caiz Sr. (US) allowed him to go on, but the Japanese challenger’s follow-up assault was so furious that he called a halt to save Salgado from further punishment. It was a very remarkable coronation of the best Japanese prospect in the beginning of the new year.

Before the stoppage, all the judges had favored the aggressive challenger, as follows: Tom Miller and Rafael Ramos (both US) both 107-102, and Chalerm Prayadsab (Thailand) 106-103, for Uchiyama.

No he wont, he really had a spotty resume to begin with and he happened to catch lineares with a great shot, but unlike lineares, his ceiling is basically as high as its ever going to get, hell be lucky to be on that type of stage ever again.

if he's good, he'll bounce back. if he's not, he wont be missed.
