Popular misconception of movies to associate africa with slavery

I have noticed movies generally like to talk about how bad slavery was and how it is great that it is over, then they mention that it happened to africans as whole??? Where are they getting this information from?

The historical rules of slavery regardless of empire was war booty, there were only four times where slavery was exclusively one type of people, the slavery by the americans in the cross atlantic slavery of west-african peoples, the slavery of the israelites by the ancient egyptians, the slavery of the eastern european slavics by the ottoman empire, the slavery of south asian indians by the dutch/british in south africa.

There are people who are descended from slaves all over the world from various backgrounds, why are the hollywood movies only ever made about the igbo west africans that were enslaved by the americans and the brits?

Nah I was going to say 'blacks sold their fellow black people to whites', 'Arab Muslims enslaved black people for about 1000 years before the trans-Atlantic slave trade was established, and this was called the trans-Saharan slave trade and was still in existence well into the 20th century', and 'Berber Muslims still enslave blacks to this day in Mauritania'.

But few people care about those inconvenient facts.

Another fancy lie being pushed around these days, arabs or any other people for that matter didnt have slaves based on somebodies skin colour or what have you, they had slaves based on either 1. war booty, 2. foreigners caught in the deserts. FYI the biggest number of slavic slaves were found in the arab countries, even more than the zanzibari slaves and accounts for all the red hair and pale white skin you see amongst many arab countries today

Maybe because Hollywood is in America and it makes movies that closely relate to it's own history.

Oh and BTW the bolded never happened. There is no evidence of Israelites being held slaves by the Egyptians. No archaeological evidence, and even the supposed dates in the Bible do not coincide with actual dates.

I never mentioned anything about skin colour. What on earth are you talking about?



Arab Muslims specifically targeted blacks because they believed they were inferior & made perfect slaves due to their 'low intelligence'. There was a slave revolt in Iraq in 869 which included up to 500,000 slaves.

There's plenty more quotes like that, and today in the Arab world, blacks are still despised.

Where are you getting the information about the movies from? Oh wait... yes, I think I realise where you're getting it from.

Fact is that movies tell stories. Stories have specific rules or we instinctively don't like them. This means that movies are always going to be selective in what facts they present, and any movie that attempted to be a fully objective and sober analysis of the totality of human experience would be watched by nobody.
