Mayweather has knocked out 3 of seven guys at welterweight.
    Mitchell
    Hatton
    Ortiz
    He also fought
    Judah
    Marquez
    Mosley
    De La Hoya

So I'm not sure where Larry Merchant got 17% from.

The key is when Merchant said "before he came into the welterweight divison AS A TITLE HOLDER".

Mayweathers first fight at WW was against Mitchell, which was a TKO but wasnt for a title, therefore Merchant is not counting that.

      Ricky Hatton (KO)
      Shane Mosley
      Zab Judah
      Carlos Baldomir
      JMM
      Oscar De La Hoya

      Thefore 1 KO out of 6 fights = 17%

Now Merchant is also including De La Hoya because he never said 17% KO percentage at WW, he said 17% KO percentage "against the bigger guys" since moving to WW as a title holder.

Yes Merchant is clearly putting an outrageous spin on the numbers, but this explains what he meant

wow, now I am truly convinced Merchant is a Mayweather hater. He totally twisted the wording and numbers. You could do that for Pacquaio and say he has a 0% KO percentage at 147 as a titleholder

lolz that just totally wrong for merchant, dela hoya was not fought at WW and fight with JMM was not for and against baldomir floyd was not yet a title holder at WW...

pac has 2 defense against clottey and Mosley both by UD so its 0% lolz

            Mayweather KO, at welterweight

Well somebody is wrong, because BOXREC has Mayweather having 7 fights, with Ortiz, 8 fights, at welterweight.

Mitchell, Judah, Baldomir, Oscar, Hatton, Marquez, Mosley, plus Ortiz, making 8.

Before Ortiz result, TKO Mitchell, KO Hatton. 2 out of 7 around 27%. Maybe 17 was a typo for 27, or maybe he wasn't counting a TKO only KO.

The Oscar fight wasn't at welterweight

Lol Mosley is not a real welterweight but Margarito is ?? Can I remember you that Mosley is Margarito's daddy ?
