Golovkin is left to work through IBF mandatory challengers (and the ocassional WBC mandatory challenger), while Daniel Jacobs is free to take on any fighter, as long as they are rated top 15 by the WBA or WBO.
Wishful thinking on your end, Danny will have to step up or vacate. Golovkin's not giving up his belt for Pirog's leftovers.

And Jacobs/Quillin did 8,443 attendance. Compare that to Golovkin/Geale at 8,572.

*sigh* What does a boxer gotta do be considered good nowadays? Seriously, everytime I look around, if a boxer wins, it's because he didn't fight anybody and is not that good. If he loses, it's because he's a bum and was never that good. It's really unfair to look at boxers that way.

A few weeks ago people were saying there wasn't any good fights at middleweight for GGG now some of these same guys are claiming Jacobs is the dragon slayer lol...

Looks like GGG has plenty of options going into 2016. Lee/Saunders, Jacobs,Tuerano(Mando),Canelo, and possibly Lara if HBO begins doing business with Haymon again.. Looks like he's in a good spot right now at least.

hey dumbass, Showtime paid about $2.4 million for the rights to the Jacobs-Quillin show where the purses for the 2 tv fights by themselves cost $3.3 million.

Still think promoters keep some of the TV money?

            lol dip****........

Should probably look at the ticket prices for the two events, instead of simply looking at bodies, tbh (gate between the two fights would be a better comparison)

Beyond that, you've got to look at the politics of things:

-the payouts to the fighters on the two televised 'Showtime Championship Boxing' fights amounted to almost $3.5m (before considering the fact that Chris Algieri was featured on the SHOExtreme portion of the broadcast)

-As of this moment, "Miracle Man" Daniel Jacobs, cancer survivor, Brooklynite, and WBA champion, is Al Haymon's top dog at 160lbs (Andy Lee has a claim, so to speak)

-HBO has never paid out over $2m to broadcast a single Golovkin fight (HBO had the gall to put Golovkin-Lemieux on PPV because they were unwilling to shell out the ~$3m fee that it likely ended up costing to put on the show)

To sum up the point, Golovkin-Jacobs is a much bigger fight for Haymon/Showtime than it is for HBO, with the likely bidding process making that pretty obvious.

No one is arguing that Golovkin is "afraid" of Jacobs, but I sincerely doubt that K2/HBO is willing to lay out the likely $4m that it's going to take to carry the fight [Golovkin-Jacobs is the biggest possible fight that Haymon could deliver for Daniel, the Barclays Center is likely to be willing to open up the pockets to host a son of Brooklyn taking on such a fight, and Showtime is likely to eat up selling "cancer survivor goes from near death, to having a chance to be 'on top of the world'" to their viewing audience].

haha I like Jacobs, but I hear what you're saying.

The GGG hate squad is desperate to find either:

                    A. Someone who can beat GGG

                    B. Someone they can accuse GGG of ducking

                    lol

I will try one last time; you seem to be slow, so here goes.

Jacobs-Quillin, as a standalone fight, was a massively meaningful fight; Showtime was heaviliy interested in broadcasting it, Barclays Center was deeply interesting in hosting the fight, and I'd imagine that interest in the New York area were happy to support the fight with event sponsorsips (not to mention the fight being big enough to draw international interest, ie BoxNation in the UK).

In putting together the budget for this fight, Lou Dibella could rightfully look to the Showtime TV rights fee, net proceeds from the live gate, event sponsors, international TV rights fees, and even some merch sales supporting the NY-focused fight card, among other things. Add up projections for the 5-6 different revenue streams, weigh those against the costs related to putting on the event, and pay out accordingly.

Not every fight is going to be as big as Jacobs-Quillin; a lot of fights actually end up like Jared Hurd vs Frank Galarza. The Hard Rock Casino may have been willing to pay out some money to host the fight, but a massive crowd didn't walk up to the box office, there was no real international interest in the card, and I doubt that the event sponsors were kicking down the doors to add their names to the show.

The entire event, by and large, was financed by what Showtime was willing to put behind the ShoBox rights fee. If the promoters for the event earnestly expected to only make their money off of the tickets that they were able to sell, they likely ended up losing money on the show from the jump.
