Comments Thread For: Miguel Cotto Preparing For Physical, Mental Challenges

This is why a lot of fighters fail at trying to get to that next level. I am one who believes, an athlete in any sports should train at the highest level no matter who their opponent is. That is why Jordan, Magic, etc. were so good. Mayweather is good at what he does because he's always training, even when he doesn't have a scheduled opponent. Cotto is telling himself that he has to be at a higher level for Mayweather. Like I said, Cotto should have always been there, mentally and physically.

Really?
"oscar who lost all his big fights" So, Oscar is a H.O.F'mer but he lost ALL his big fights? Really? Every fight Oscar had was a big fight because he was a warrior who took on all challenges, unlike Maynever. He cared about the fans and the sport enough to risk it because that is why a fighter is blessed with that talent; to take risks and fight the very best so at the end of their careers, there are no doubts about their legacy. Go and watch some more fights before you make stupid comments like that.Last edited by GOD-FR33; 04-18-2012, 02:45 PM.

[QUOTE=kenwills;12017326]Thanks man I appreciate that. Hey who you got in that Canelo/Mosley fight? When in the Pac Man and Mayweather fights he just couldn't pull the trigger. But if he can take Canelo's punches I think he has a chance. He used to be a Warrior and if he uses his speed I think he could upset him. I mean Canelo looks big and strong but those guys he fought really aren't on the same level as Mosley. Even in the fight Mosley had against Sergio Mora he looked pretty good Mora's style is so defensive he couldn't get any clean blows in. I think i'm gonna take Canelo in a close 12 round decision just because I think he wants it more at this point.[/QUOTE
well I agree this fight will go all 12 rounds like you said, but in the end Canelo has youth and more strength that will be the deciding factor.Yah sure he could pull off an upset, anything is possible, Mosley has the mean hook that could hurt anybody, he used it alot of times and knock people out with it, he hurt floyd with it, but floyd boxed and won. but Mosley will give Canelo a challenge he never experienced before. Mosley will give him a fight in the early to mid rounds then Canelo will adapt. that's how I see it playing out.Last edited by Toltec77; 04-18-2012, 04:30 PM.

I like Cotto a lot...and really hoping for him to win, but I can't see him beating Floyd. Floyd is just too slick. The only way I think is that if Cotto would unleash his well timed LEFT HOOK and staggering Floyd (or uppercut) and then going for the follow up.
But Floyd really knows how to defend that well. So Floyd must watch those "Transitional" footworks going from one position to the other, this is where he can get caught by surprise.
Other than that...Floyd by Unanimous Decision.

Cotto doesn't plan on pressuring Mayweather, because pressuring Mayweather is the worst strategy in boxing history. Mayweather's defense is designed for that. He stays on the outside, which makes opponents (and dumbass fans) think the goal is to get inside. Once there, however, he uses crafty angles, his gloves, and his elbows to smother, deflect, and cheap-shot his opponents. He wants those guys coming inside.
Cotto and his team have likely studied a boatload of tape and will be aware of this. We saw when he beat Margarito both times (prior to the plaster-to-the-nose in fight #1), as well as in his fight with Mosley, that he has plenty of ability to box patiently.
When Judah, Castillo, and De La Hoya had success against Mayweather, it was in forcing Mayweather to fight against a patient opponent. Mosley had similar success early, but then thought he needed to follow up the round 2 dazing with pressure, which ultimately did him in.
Pressure is bad against Mayweather. You back up, and make him come to you.
