the most impactful movies for me were in the late 80's early 90's but thats just cuz I was a kid at that time. If I had to pick movies just based on how good they were in overall quality (directing, acting, cinematography, special effects, story) then I would have to go with the 2000's.

          The Lord of the Rings(Trilogy)
          Memento
          The Departed
          Requiem for a Dream
          Gladiator
          City of God
          There Will Be Blood
          Pan's Labyrinth
          Inglourious Basterds
          The Dark Knight
          Sin City
          No Country for Old Men
          Kill Bill
          V for Vendetta
          Elite Squad
          The Bourne (Trilogy)
          The Prestige
          Oldboy
          In Bruges
          Into the Wild
          A Beautiful Mind
          Million Dollar Baby
          Slumdog Millionaire
          Gran Torino
          The Ring
          District 9
          Star Trek
          Pirates of the Caribbean
          Avatar
          WALL-E

          Finding Nemo
          Ratatouille
          The Incredibles
          Shrek

agreed... it was during this decade direcors like brian de palma, martin scorsese, david lean and francis coppola were at their "creative peaks" so to speak...

the 80s were too mainstream for me... 90s was awesome too... most significant of which (for me) was the emergence of pixar for their premium on good storytelling and quentin tarantino...

This is the best list of the lists... I assume they all have been 'off the top of the head' sorts of things.

about half of that list was off the top of my head. the rest I did some searching and kept coming back to add some movies.

I'm sure there are still some that I am forgetting.

                      The 2000's and 2010's.

of course 60% were just remakes though.
