The old rule is HW champs are more known but look at this era, very few would actually know who Klitchko was, more ppl know Fury than Wlad because he is another attention seeker.I believe Weltschmerz to be correct, as eras pass the old timers get less and less popular..of course you have exceptions like Mike Tyson who imop is the most recognizable fighter in history and still is today.

In their respective times 'OWN' eras ..Ali was more popular than Mayweather is today ,but NOW? Well that's questionable.
Tell u what. Let Ali walk into ANY arena...let Floyd walk in at the same time... there is NO QUESTION, no doubt whatsoever, that Ali receives more attention. Kids DO know who he is, still. Ali is "GOD like" in this world...if Ali stepped foot in Times Square right now today traffic would stop for hours... Floyd would get a lot of attention but traffic isnt STOPPING... because here is the main ingredient of it all. People KNOW Floyd but they dont LOVE Floyd, he is absolutely not iconic... people LOVE Ali.

EXAMPLE. I was in Las Vegas a few months back after the Pacman fight and Mayweather walked through the casino... he got a lot of looks but not ahige buzz or anything, he was able to keep walking. Im telling you facts here, if Ali steps foot in ANY Las Vegas casino he's gonna be there for a good while. Its two different levels of love, reocgnition, awe and affection between him and others.

By face? Probably Mayweather. Only a year ago his face was everywhere for the lead up to the biggest $ fight in history. I'm not sure. Will watch the link when I get a moment.

By name - Ali. Ali and Tyson are household names even to non-boxing fans.

The reception for both would be the same with everyone crowding Ali bc he is more liked . No one wouldn't recognise either ,it would prove nothing . Recieving more attention in a boxing arena doesnt mean one is more recognisable around the world . Overall Ali has achieved more than Mayweather ,hes even in the martial arts hall of fame "i was there when he was given a 20 minute film presentation on his career in 2013 " , but the criteria you are using is in Floyd s favor who in MODERN times is more recognisable . Floyd would get trampled on in time square .

i think he was around 40. i'm 29. my father traveled the world [really just the eastern seaboard from canada to the virgin islands,] in a sailboat in the summer, and lived in a cabin he built in the winter in sugarbush vermont for about 10 years. he's an interesting guy to say the very least.

You'd have to be living underground, not to know who these guys are.

I dont think you've seen them in person then....the reaction for Ali anywhere on earth is AWE-INSPIRING... I saw Floyd walk through a casino in Vegas LAST YEAR and his reaction was nowhere near pandemonium...I saw Ali, however, in a hotel in Mexico in 2012 (31 YEARS after his last fight) and people waited HOURS in line just to see him.

I saw Ali in Las Vegas in 2010 and the attention he got was not that major.

You're kidding yourself massively if you think the traffic would stop in New York if Ali was in Times Square

Maybe in 1975-1985. Not now. But that's because he's old and dying, it's normal.

Ali will always be a bigger icon than Mayweather. That's just plain obvious I wasn't aware of that ever being disputed.

And i saw quite a few celebrities who are much more famous than both combined that know one paid mind to it doesnt really prove anything unless a full scale servay was done and my money would be on Floyd. Of course people would wait for Ali or Floyd if it is pre arranged .I already covered the reactions would be different still has nothing to do with whos more recognisable NOW. Ithink Ali will still be more famous than Floyd when the Mayweather celebritie status dies down ,but as of NOW ,no ithink Mayweather is more recognisable to the general public .Most everybody invisions Ali of the 70's not the 2000's.
