How do you get to that conclusion? He just said he would drop down to 54 for Floyd, real clear.

You're going too far by saying it 'proves' anything. It suggests that he might not feel he can comfortably make 154, but it's every bit as likely that (1) they see it as a valuable bargaining chip with Canelo's people, which it is. And (2) that while 154 is the only reasonable weight at which to meet Mayweather, 160 is not at all unreasonable for Canelo.

Not at all, what it really says is "I'll come down for Floyd not for Canelo!!! It also says Martinez is a bonafide middle-wt and really should be looking to fight Gennady and Ward not fighters at 47 and 54.

So' he'll go to 154 and beat the best boxing has, but won't go to 154 to face an inexperienced Canelo Alvarez. Duck

It would be a bad move for Canelo. He hasn't even fought the top guys at 154 yet. Even if he beats Trout, that's the only good fighter he's fought.

No, Martinez has far too much to gain here, this only complicates things; calling for it at 160. If he's somehow victorious against Canelo, the public would then heavily demand a Mayweather fight, it would make the fight look that more viable. This, all assuming Canelo gets past Trout. Which is why I'm saying this is proof that Martinez can no longer be a healthy 154 anymore.

Don't you guys know the Canelo "I tried" tactic? His fans certainly do and they actually give him credit for it. Canelo's people are just throwing Martinez's name out there so that his fans can say he "tried".

When you criticize Canelo's resume what's the first thing his fans tell you?

"Well he tried to fight P.Will, Kirkland and Ortiz. Whatever happened to them wasn't his fault!"

So yea, his fans will be content with saying he tried to fight Martinez and give him credit like he actually did.
