Got a call from the retirement home he's in that his lips were blue, short of breath and they took him to the hospital.

Your biggest mistake would be in confusing Jehovah God with religion. They have nothing in common except for the term "God", being used between them.

I would advise you to keep your relationship with him as personal as possible if you were to start one.
