Is it my responsability to help people that don't help themselves? I have no problem helping someone in need, I just have a big problem with government giving my hard earned money to people that don't deserve it.

The role of government is not to bail people out of their own created mistakes. Why skould I pay more taxes to bail out some idiot who chose not to use a condom. I planned when to have my kids and have never needed government handouts to take care of them. What ever happened to personal responsability?

Name one socialist country that is greater than the US?
Single mothers may have been a bad example, but what about someone who can't afford adequate health insurance for their family and their child breaks a leg? Who's going to tend to his leg? You? Because your healthcare system sure as hell wont.

If the role of government isn't to bail people out of there mistakes then why did they just bail out wallstreet? The majority of people at some point in their lives needs a hand, some of those do not have the friends and family around them to support them. They will just fall through the cracks as there is no government there to back them up when they are down, that to me signifies a poor society.

Economic achievements are not the only measure of the success of a society my friend. If you continue to base your respect of your country on this, wait a few decades then move to china.

You seem to think that you will not benefit at all from a change to your country. Do you take any medication? Have you gone to university?

The bailout for wallstreet was necesary it not only affected all americans but the world as a whole. What we need now is for the government to do it's job and make sure this never happens again instead of wasting our money in taking personal responsabilty out of people hands.

There are plenty of programs in the US that help people out, the problem that too many people abuse this system and are looking for a free handout rather than help in their time of need.

This country is not only great becuase of it economic achivements but because it allows us to be free to pursue life as we wish. It gives us all the freedom to achive our goals and beyond. Socialism represses that, it gives government more control of our lives and goes against the main reason why this country was created.

And I will gladly pay more for my medication and education in order to keep the goverments hands out of my pockets.

What programs does your government provide to help people out?

Right now your country allows the richer proportion of the population to "pursue life as we wish". If your born into poverty there how can you escape? Is there much chance of them even getting into college with the poor standards of high schools, or if they do manage to get the grades, afford the tuition.

          How exactly does socialism repress...

This is not communism we are talking about, i'm not told by the government to produce one product at this quantity. I can become an entrepreneur, a doctor or a firefighter if I work towards it and achieve the goals to do so. Your government has the patriots act, show me a legislation from the Australian government which strips the rights away from it's citizens like that does. Your view of socialism seems so surreal to me, when I finish my degree and enter my career im more than likely going to be paying 47 cents to the dollar in tax after a few years. Do you kow who this is going to, people who are worst off than me, who weren't given the same encouragement in my life as I grew up.

Please explain to me why you have such harsh feelings towards this idea? Quite frankly it astounds me that someone could be so against helping others in the country that they are so patriotic about.

Wealth gap creating a social time bomb

Growing inequality in US cities could lead to widespread social unrest and increased mortality, says a new United Nations report on the urban environment.

In a survey of 120 major cities, New York was found to be the ninth most unequal in the world and Atlanta, New Orleans, Washington, and Miami had similar inequality levels to those of Nairobi, Kenya Abidjan and Ivory Coast. Many were above an internationally recognised acceptable "alert" line used to warn governments.

"High levels of inequality can lead to negative social, economic and political consequences that have a destabilising effect on societies," said the report. "[They] create social and political fractures that can develop into social unrest and insecurity."

Most students manage to attend school and pay for it with the aid of student loans. Minorities actually have a much easier time because they have HUGE number of grants and scholarship opportunities available to them.

Good for you, if your happy giving half your money away then by all means do. I wouldn't, I want control of my money and help out who I see fit not who the government chooses.

If your happy with socialism it seems that you are living in the right place and all the idiot americans who voted that they support socialism now know where to go.

But those grants and scholarships are something you would do away with because they are apparently "socialist".
