  • If Salvador Sanchez and Azumah Nelson had a rematch.

I have seen some recent threads on Salvador Sanchez. No doubt, a great fighter. I am curious to see others opinions on how a rematch between Azumah Nelson and Sanchez would have gone. Nelson was a late replacement and from many accounts not properly prepared (Mouthpiece issues) but gave Sanchez what might have been his toughest fight. Did Sanchez underestimate Nelson? Would a more experienced Nelson be better in a rematch? Would a rematch look the same or would it be a different result?

I don't have an opinion on this right now and truly have no answers. I would like to see the opinions from others here on this topic first.

    Good thread,,,

Depends on when it happened,, alot can change very quickly in this sport,,

I think if sanchez had not passed away so suddenly, he would eventually rematch nelson,
but there are some different factors to considered

    1. what weight,, It seemed that sanchez was having maybe 2 more fights at feather and then going up to lightweight for big money showdowns, I highly doubt he would come back down in weight,

    2. Neslon fought best at feather, maybe super feather,, I think sanchez could probably repeat his success vs nelson, especially if it was at lightweight

    3. How much wear and tear would sanchez have,, my gut feeling is that he would really slow down after a few years,, his short career already had some wars, and if you throw in rematches with laporte, gomez, and 135 showdowns with arguello, rosario, mancini, sanchez could really slow down

I think if it was an immediate rematch i favor sanchez, but longer time goes i would favor nelson over a slowed down sanchez

I am not sure what would happen but this would have been a extremely good fight if Nelson picked up some seasoning.

        Either two things happen:

        1) Sanchez wins a close UD over Azumah.

        2) Nelson scores an upset decision over Salvador.

Either scenario can happen, but I don't think Azumah can improve in such a short time to beat Salvador, so I'm going with 1.
