julio cesar vasquez had winky dead to rights, and dropped him several times. winky was green, but he finished the fight [UD loss.] let me see if i can find it. fun fight.
winky had an amazing chin. quillin can bang. i saw him fight live, and you could feel / hear true thudding power. that hook is very short. guys aren't going to see that thing, and it's going to hurt them.
my issue with quillin is what happens when he's not landing big shots. he's an average fighter. he doesn't do enough to beat an elite fighter if he can't land the bombs on him and shake him up.
i don't think this guy will even fight golovkin. it makes no sense at all for his promotor, and i can't see it making any sense for him in the future.
can quillin beat martinez? probably. in his prime sergio would probably come off the deck to decision quillin, looking spectacular [note that i'm not saying great, but "spectacular," meaning it would be a spectacle.] he was just that kind of fighter.
sergio looked god awful in his last fight. he was slow, getting hit, and getting hurt. his body is breaking down. his athletic skills are deteriorating. a purely athletic fighter cannot stay at the top once his skills diminish. he's got to do something else. i don't think sergio has anything left in his toolbox once his speed won't win him fights.Last edited by New England; 07-11-2013, 01:46 PM.

He wasn't doing much when Golden Boy worked with HBO either. When a guy talks a lot in one breath and turns down fights with the other, he's going to get disrespected.

The man HURTS people. Everyone who gets in the ring with him gets hurt at some point. His power is almost equal to that of Golovkin. Easily the second hardest puncher at MW. I believe hes scored 11 knock downs in his past three fights. He has the power to hurt ANYONE at MW from Sergio to Chavez to Golovkin - if he lands clean any of these guys could get hurt, dropped or KOd.
The huge problem obviously is that he's stuck with Golden Boy/Showtime while all the other relevant MWs are fighting on HBO. This is why he's going to be fighting the Danny Jacobs of the world for a bit which sucks for him and fans.
IMO Golovkin and Quillin are the two best MWs. Both would beat Martinez and Chavez jr.
I'd like to see GGG matchup with Quillin. He needs to legitimize himself by beating a top guy in his divison like Kid Choc.
I'm sorry wins over Proksa and Macklin don't impress upon me that GGG is elite.
Ishida made his name over a troubled James Kirkland.
I want to see GGG vs. Quillin, Chavez, Martinez.
Right now he's nothing but HYPE!

I think Quillin has progressed and is a very solid fighter. He does need to let his hands go more at times which is the main reason he can lose rounds. But his power is always there from round 1 to 12 he can turn it around with one shot which makes him a real threat against anyone.
