New Australian Flag?

They're not actually part of the same constellation. The pointers are part of Centaurus, not Crux.

It'd be a travesty of astronomical proportions...

Haha. True, i did not know that but isnt the big star on the current flag one of them? Which star is that? Theres 6 stars right? 5 in the cross and the big one which i assumed was a pointer.

The big star underneath the Union Jack is called the Commonwealth Star and isn't from a constellation at all. Each of it's points is meant to represent an Australian State/territory.

7 points of star = 6 states + combined territories.

The other 5 stars on the right form the Southern Cross.

The only problem I have with that flag is that it looks a bit plain.





The two don't look too bad though.

It's pretty much the Union Jack that people have issue with. Out of all the designs shown above, I like this one the best:



Republican Socialist League 1956- remove the Union Jack and replace with the Commonwealth Star.

I think it's important to keep the flag recognisable. Those green and gold flags look gaudy and cheap. I'd never vote for one like that.

Why don't they just replace the Union Jack with the Aboriginal flag? A little better than this but something along this line.

Both these flags look terrible.
