Grant and Fields both started out their pro careers very similarly, but Grant despite never proving to be a champion is still more legit a fighter than Fields, who despite his size can't really fight. In Grant's case he would have been much more of a success had he boxed throughout his life and not only into his 20's.

I was wondering why Fields handlers were throwing him in against Grant. I figured that they knew something like Grant was not in shape or maybe had a damaged hand because Grant is 10x the fighter Fields could ever be. Fields being 45-2 was a joke, that's why records can be decieving. I give the guy credit for stepping into fight but it ends there, he's pathetic. Congratulations to Grant for beating a man that he should have fought in his sleep, in a dream atleast Fields might have been able to put up a fight.......Rockin'

The money is still in boxing, but there's too much of a prize to pay, a price too high for most aspiring American athletes. Running after a ball is an easier way to make a living, not that it's easy by any means. A lot of the NFL and basketball players would probably give up on boxing the moment they got hit. Perhaps a select few would make it to the top in the current state of things but they would be no Muhammad Ali or Joe Frazier. Pinklon Thomas and Michael Dokes level at best.

well a lot of the best heavyweights nowadays are from the former Soviet Union, obviously they wouldn't have made an impact in the past because they weren't allowed to turn professional until the 1990s. So in the same way you are saying that your best heavyweights are in the NBA and NFL, someone biased towards Eastern European fighters could say that all their best fighters in the past weren't able to even compete and that had they been Americans wouldn't have been so dominant.

Plus saying that all your best boxers are in the NFL is discounting the fact that there are other sports around the world with big guys competing in.
