that is true about the demographic thing.

    i never thought it.

i just assumed it was purely economic as far as men with nothing to do so taking up arms.

we need to give afghans **** and ps4's. that'll kill their recruitment. lol

they did win the battles but the war lost thru the media.

funny thing is tet destroyed the VC but at the same time won them the war.

the VC thought the SViet ppl would rally with them. never happened and they got crushed.

american media and ppl didn't realize it.

And they weren't trying to 'prop up the place'. They were trying to prop up a government which would be strong enough to survive. They've failed, miserably. As has anyone who's tried to impose their will on Afghanistan. 'Should have just bombed them'
Exactly people from the west don't realize the reality. There is no way to defeat the ideology which the Taliban use. The Pashtun which make up most of the Taliban are one of the most staunch people you will ever meet.

For every Talib that was killed, other members from his family would join, The Taliban still control many parts of Afghanistan and you can bet on it that once all other forces are out of Afghanistan that they will once again be in power.

The Afghan army is not equipped or trained highly enough to defeat a force which has been operating in that region since the 80s.

As far as Pakistan is concerned, the war really did radicalise Pakistan, never before was there suicide bombings in Pakistan and there was no war going on in the Northwest region. It was only when Pakistan got involved that the country started facing severe security problems.

so there will always be terrorists, so don't bother attacking them?

idiotic. al qaeda attacked the us, the us had to go after them.

us killed, captured a lot of al qaeda, destroyed their training camps and overthrew the taliban who gave al qaeda sanctuary.

the fact there is still ppl claiming AQ or TAL is irrelevant. they're not the same ppl or org anymore.

          get it?

they are local groups, mostly operating locally, fighting for small regions or local power or money.

the current taliban are no longer the central govt in afghanistan or a major international group like al qaeda was.

al qaeda bombed a us destroyer in the gulf of aden, blew up US embassies in africa, saudi buildings, attacked WTC in NY TWICE.

they were very organized and trained. they don't have that anymore.

local groups causing havoc in afghanistan, iraq, etc. is one thing.

what they were capable off pre-afghan war was another.

The war didn't radicalise Pakistan, the war pushed radicals out of Afghanistan and into Pakistan over the mountains. Pakistan has always been a major player in Islamic extremism.

plus pakistan went after them because of US pressure while they didn't before.

and pakistan still supports some groups like those in kashmir.

going to war means killing ppl. you know that right?

death, destruction, rape, pillaging, looting, arson, mass graves.

                  that is war.
