I agree with everything you said, except that other than Manny any of those guys are global stars. Only Manny is a genuine global star.

None of those fights would or could be PPV fights.

PPV has never really been a super sustainable model. It's really only possible for the rare superstar. And even then, the fight needs to be right. After Pac and Floyd call it a day, PPV will be dead for a bit.

You'll get the odd superfight that might get PPV, but other than that, PPV is about to be dead.

        • A few years later, Roc Nation will realize this was a win for them. What a horrible investment lol

I'm kind of glad dumbass Broner turned it down, the guy will never be an elite fighter and won't even come close to sniffing a quarter of that offer.

Schaefer thought PPV is the answer to making tons of money in the business. He found that even Mayweather can't sustain steady numbers.

He saw it firsthand in the Guerrero/May fight, which was the first fight he got full control over the numbers without HBO in the background. At the time they were also set to make the Broner/Maidana a PPV fight before the end of that year, but decided to make it a regular fight. And the reason is self-explanatory.

The three stooges, Espinoza, Schaefer and Haymon are supposed to make truckloads of money in the Mayweather PPV fights and use that money to make more fights. It failed miserably. Charts show HBO still beat them by a landslide on ratings, quantity and quality despite Schaefer/Haymon taking all their fighters with them to SHO.

Like it ! Don't think it will quite like that but with his earning history, massive between fights weight gain and unliked attitude $40m guaranteed is a huge sum to walk away from . After the Maidana loss he has still to prove his pedigree in the heavier divisions where he no doubt will have to concentrate his efforts given the recent over weight pictures of him.

                • Bad move by Broner - he's just not as good as he could have potentially been, needs to perfect different skills to get better and if he doesn't do that he'll lose again.

But at the moment he's really risking throwing away 40 million because his star power could very quickly be deteriorated if he loses again soon so his value in a year or two might only be worth 500k - 1mil per fight. If he signed now he could have guaranteed 40 million, 8 mil per year for 5 years, win or lose? Was worth taking Broner, you phucked up big time.

Like others have said, it probably wasn't serious. Roc Nation is throwing a lot of money at Haymon fighters, knowing they will have to turn it down, just to make them look bad.
