Never heard this before but Mac was a good fighter with a hell of a punch, I think the footage I've seen of them sparring shown Liston beating him around the ring though.
Even though Liston had a very solid chin it's possible with Mac's punch, doubt it though. -
The story had enough credence to be reported at the time. Obviously we'll never know for sure if it happened, though Liston was well long in the tooth by then and was KO'd for real by Leotis Martin a while later, so it's possible.
