Getting everyone under one banner is no good for the fighters. It's called a monopoly and in most cases it's illegal. That guy Dana White has complete control of his branch of the MMA and look how little even the best of his fighters get paid and they do as they are told. Haymon hasn't been good for boxing as far as I can tell. He manages many of the best welterweights. Thurman, Khan, Brook, Garcia and Porter are all managed by Haymon I think. These top welterweights should be fighting each other. They aren't fighting each other but fighting lesser fighters like Collazo, Algieri and Paulie. That's not good for boxing or boxing fans of good even fights with the best fighting the best.

Thurman has yet to fight guys like Khan, Porter, Brook, Alexander, Garcia. Is this HBO's fault? Haymon has enough fighters to make meaningful fights, but he won't.

Sell WHAT to the highest bidder? All he has to sell is the stage and the ring. That is basically worthless. The PBC brand will be worthless once it fails. It is not like a major league sports franchise where you have a bunch of players contracted and a team name and brand to sell. This is boxing. In the end he will be paying someone to take the stage and ring away so that he doesn't have to pay storage fees on it.

Or you never know... one day someone will buy a storage locker on Storage Wars and when they open it up... WOW! A PBC boxing ring and a goofy pro rasslin' style stage setup!!!

Keep watching and you will see! Or hell don't watch if you don't like what he is doing it really won't matter. Haymon seems like a guy that is 20 Steps ahead of the Competition and Fans. I think the Roster will continue to grow with more Big Names jumping on Board Eventually leaving the Competition without many options and without many top Level Competition for their fighters to fight. Without great dance partners it can get extremely hard to make money by trying to sell PPV's. Not only that but how long are Promoters going to be happy all being crammed on HBO trying to squeeze themselves into HBO's Yearly Budget

He already has his competition Cornered and Fans and Promoters don't even know it. They're all stuck on one Network trying to get dates from HBO and trying to fit into HBO's yearly budget. Lets see how long this last and if HBO will be able to keep everybody happy

As annoying as Arum's in-house fights are, I don't think he should be compared to Haymon for at least Arum usually puts his best fighters in together.

Haymon's end-game? make as much money as possible, which would probably involve boxing on a PPV channel or attracting big sponsors on regular TV. Doesn't look promising for him though.

Is it his fault or HBO's fault for not wanting to do business with each other? Is Bob Arum and Goldenboy so h*ll bent on burying Haymon that they will not do business with him at any cost for the foreseeable future? I think we can all agree that having two ego maniacs like Arum and Haymon is bad for boxing. All I can say is we will never see the money making fights that should happen with these promotions at odds. With that being said, is competition and the absence of a monopolized sport under one promotion the natural flow of business in boxing? I mean it used to be Don King and Arum being at odds, but at least they would meet halfway. Perhaps the biggest dilemma is the two glaring differences between Arum and Haymon in regards to their business ethics. Haymon, a greenhorn, shady, 'good guy', using every trick in the book to preserve select fighters in his stable while putting entertaining fights on the back burner. And then you have Arum, a also shady, pretentious, mastermind creating stars through taking gambles on his stables fighters, focusing more on selling entertaining fights.

              What are y'alls thoughts?
Haymon's end goal is rather simple: lock in the monthly ESPN deal (as a pay deal from ABC/ESPN), the monthly FNLO deal on Spike (as a pay deal from Viacom/Sp1keTV), and then a massive content deal from a single network TV party; likely composed of at least 12 primetime dates and as many Saturday afternoon shows that whatever the network is can bear. Featuring his affiliated talent across all of the broadcasts.

Beyond that, Haymon seems to earnestly believe that the way HBO/Top Rank (including everyone else in that orbit) have controlled things for the last 30 years has been a severe detriment to the sport of boxing. With his knowledge, his reputation, and his connections within boxing and beyond boxing, Haymon is doing what he can to right the wrongs he lays on HBO's view of boxing.

Because, if we're being honest, there's no real logical reason why GYM and Main Events shouldn't have put Stevenson-Kovalev out for open bid to whatever channel willing to pay for the fight; maximize the money for both of the fighters, finally fully unify a division, and create the type of showdown that could draw casual sports fan attention (relative English barriers aside).

Terrence Crawford, at all of 27 years old but with a hometown that is rallying behind his talent in a massive way, is left with maybe fighting twice this year, shunting his opportunity to truly break out as a star. With many other examples, tbh.

              Build or destroy

Always astounds me how supposedly knowledgeable boxing fans willfully ignore the fact that the UFC signed a $100m a year content deal to broadcast fights on Fox/FS1 (with Fox already knowing that the UFC was still running 12-14 PPV events every year).

Haymon is likely coming into his own set of talks, with about as much talent under his banner as the UFC did when they went to Fox and without the overhang of so many of his top showdowns being kept on PPV.

Why would Haymon worry himself with taking 15% off of $2m in purses, over even 100 shows, when he's got a pretty reasonable shot at locking in a $150m per year content deal in the near future?

                  penny wise, pound foolish.

that an average fight like porter-thurman "being talked about" is the highlight of pbc's entire existence thus far kind of reinforces the point

for now it's a very mediocre product... once in a while the underdog steps up and makes it a good fight like tonight

and this is the thing, the only reason they put on ANY of their rare competitive fights is to beat rival promotions

if haymon succeeds in overpaying fighters to steal them away from every other ummm "advisor" without putting them in competitive bouts then it will get even worse when he's the only major ummm "adviser", not better

Part of the myth, seen to many match-ups go wrong for him to buy into that, he's as fallible as the next guy. He just doesn't talk to the cameras which makes him seem like something more.
