The billionaire CEO of Corona beer clearly did not forget his roots – and has made the whole population of his home village millionaires in his will.
Antonino Fernandez grew up in extreme poverty as one of 13 siblings in the Spanish village of Cerezales del Condado, where he was born in 1917.
He emigrated to Mexico where he made his fortune with the global beer brand – but left each inhabitant of Cerezales del Condado £2 million.
Fernandez died in August this year, aged 99, leaving £169 million to the 80 residents of the village.
Fernandez grew up in extreme poverty – leaving school at age 14 because his parents could not afford the fees.
He worked his way up through the ranks at Grupo Modelo – makers of Corona – having started as a warehouse employee in 1949 when he moved to Mexico.
