Why was he able to do this? His athleticism allowed him to learn things very fast, same with Mitchell, unfortunately both started boxing very late in their lives.
He was able to do that because he's talented to a degree, we've seen many athletic guys in boxing who just weren't that good.

White Americans? Maybe. Europeans? No, there are plenty of euro ballers.

We can say "what if" all we want, but there was actually a local news segment here in Orlando some years ago, where the Magic got to try a boxing/mma style workout for a day. Howard was throwing sloppy one, two combinations on the heavy bag, squared right up, and was obviously brutally tired after some time on the heavy bag, to the point where he struggled to keep his hand up. When he (along with other magics players)were asked what they thought of the workout, he stated that that it was a lot more than what it looks like.

As a Howard fan, i say that you cannot expect the world out of these guys in other sports, since they have specifically trained for basketball.

As a reference, the segment was on channel 13 news in Orlando/Central Florida.

          The Klitschko's wouldn't fight him because he isn't a 6'0 250 pound fat ass

At 6'8 and 6'6 would they be hall of fame Guards or small forwards if they started playing ball since their childhood?

Intangibles like punch resistance, heart/will, nerve and toughness cannt be seen until they step into the ring a few times.
