OK so I think that De Niro is the better actor. Why? Because De Niro is one of the finest actors to grace the screen while Nicholson doesn't really act. He simply plays various aspects of Jack Nicholson.
But I do prefer Nicholson. Classics like Cuckoo's Nest and Easy Rider put him up there and his demented turn as the Joker keeps him there. Sure he's been in some stinkers of late like the Bucket List but De Niro was in TWO films, count em, TWO where the principle joke is that his last name sounds a bit like the word "fucker".
I disagree that those are the principal jokes. They are both funny films and De Niro definitely smashes it.
