Irish light-heavyweight Joe Ward is relishing the chance to make his World Series of Boxing debut for the GB Lionhearts in Newport on Friday after putting his professional ambitions on hold.
The 19-year-old Moate fighter had been widely expected to move into the paid ranks after controversially failing to qualify for this summer's Olympics despite winning the 2011 European crown.
But Ward has instead joined compatriot John Joe Nevin in committing to the first season with the Lionhearts team, where he will join the likes of Olympic silver medallist Fred Evans and Evans' fellow Welshman Andrew Selby.
