      Maybe he didn't really care much for saving lives but wanted his work to be admired. I.E. The explosives were "sophisticated" as the media kept pounding for days, making him look like a genius.

        Actually some people do, but to me this is merely one of the most compelling arguments for social safety nets. The absence of one puts a premium on crime. As you elegantly put it, this extends to the right of medical care as well.

            It's actually incredibly expensive to execute someone on average. The appeals process amounts to very high legal costs.
