  • Schaefer Believes Hatton Should Still Face Malignaggi For The WBA Belt

schaefer said hatton still deserves a rematch with WBA welterweight beltholder malignaggi in spite of the 9th knockout loss to ukrainian senchenko who rebounded from april's 9th round stoppage loss to malignaggi.

malignaggi has been mandated to face the WBA's interim beltholder, diego chaves, (22-0, 18 KOs), of argentina by Jan. 27.

schaefer it seems has no respect for the fighters that worked so hard to be the rightful challenger for the belt but instead picked a guy who came from a 3 and half year retirement that also lost his last bout in devastating fashion. hatton was a world class fighter in his prime but the old man should just retire for good. he knows that the real fight, the one outside of the ring is only just beginning and it is the one fight that truly counts for him.

    your thoughts?

Obviously wants the fight because of the $$$ Hatton brings to the table.

to base the fight on $$$ is stupid. other boxers had to shed sweat, tears and blood to earn a title shot but hatton somehow leapfrogs everyone even though he lost. i love the action that hattons style produce but he's past it now. if we're fortunate enough, he might just make the right decision and hang up his gloves for good

It's not stupid for a boxing promoter, they are a business after all. I hope Hatton stays retired though.

When he said Hatton deserves it, he meant to say Hatton deserves to make him more money

the fight would only sell in the uk. showtime or hbo will not buy this fight, they passed over villoria-marquez which was candidate for fight of year. the only way hatton-mailignaggi II could be exciting is to ask who would gas out first

                  So?
Neither of them are really big names stateside.
Hatton has fought both Pacquiao and Mayweather and is known stateside more than Viloria or Marquez just because he lost to them.
                  This is all name basis

i guess it's ricky's decision bottom line. if he decides to use those "names" to fight again just for the $$$, he should weigh in the risks. for now, he should focus on his promotional company and not spiral back into that dark place. his stable of fighters are at risk of being neglected, but like i mentioned, it's hatton's call
