Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum dismissed top trainer Freddie Roach’s assertion that Manny Pacquiao deserves a 70-30 share in the proposed Nov. 14 face-off with Puerto Rican hero Miguel Cotto.
"He doesn’t know a thing," Arum said yesterday from New York, where he presided over a press conference for a major fight card scheduled Saturday in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Arum said all the details of the proposal will be presented to Pacquiao on Sunday when the fighter’s adviser, Canadian Mike Koncz returns to Manila after meeting with the Top Rank chief over the weekend in Las Vegas.
"Mike’s going to explain the breakdown to Manny," said Arum, without telling if it’s 60-40, 70-30 or even 65-35 in Pacquiao’s favor.
Roach said a few days ago that owing to Pacquiao’s immense popularity and tried and tested pay-per-view draw, the Filipino lefty deserves the biggest slice of the pie.
Pacquiao lawyer Franklin Gacal also echoed Roach’s sentiments about the sharing scheme, telling a handful of scribes early this week that Pacquiao deserves 65-35 at the least.
Apparently, the revenue-split is the only thing that is preventing the two camps from finalizing the deal after Roach agreed to a catchweight of 144 or 145 lbs.
Even Pacquiao appeared not as concerned about the catch weight, hinting that he could square off with Cotto even at 147 lbs when he was quizzed by a few reporters when he graced the ribbon-cutting ceremony of a Pagcor casino in a downtown Manila hotel.
"Kahit ano (whatever)," said Pacquiao when asked about his preferred catch weight for the Cotto clash penciled at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao got a guarantee of over $ 12 million in his last fight against Ricky Hatton and Roach believes his fighter should get much more against Cotto.
TELL HIM BOB FATHER!!!! TELL FREDDIE THAT U ALREADY GAVE THE BLESSING TO THIS ONE!!!!
