  • Republican Telling The Truth About The Iraq War

Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.), an outspoken critic of the war in Afghanistan, said at a conference Saturday that former Vice President Dick Cheney would probably end up in hell for the Iraq War.

"Congress will not hold anyone to blame. Lyndon Johnson's probably rotting in hell right now because of the Vietnam War, and he probably needs to move over for Dick Cheney," Jones said at a Young Americans for Liberty conference in Raleigh, N.C. The group is a spinoff from former Rep. Ron Paul's (R-Texas) 2008 presidential campaign.

During his keynote address to the group, he praised Paul. "I want to give credit to the man who helped me understand if you're ever going to send young men and women to die, it needs to be with the Constitution and debated by the Congress," he said.

Elsewhere in his speech, he called the drone policy "absolutely unconstitutional," eliciting applause from the crowd.

"When that drone comes to America from a foreign country, we're going to wonder what in the hell hit us. It was a drone," he said.

Jones voted for the Iraq War and circulated a letter in 2003 to change the name of french fries to "freedom fries" in the House cafeterias. He has since regretted it and become a staunch opponent of the war.

"I knew that those who do not fight like myself, it's easy to be macho man, and declare war, get that son of a ***** ... I am so fed up with people who do not understand the pain of war," he said Saturday.

"Young Americans for Liberty"? Couldn't they just call the group "Too Gay for Boy Scouts"?

Its easy to vote for the war, then flip flop and talk down on it to make yourself look like a man of the public, considering that the war has been so unpopular with the people. He is just as guilty as Cheney is...

            Dear Yanks,

Stop with this "freedom" and "liberty" ****. General rule of thumb is that if someone tries to name their group something about freedom, they're probably a fascist.

Very true. Such groups are almost always compiled of reactionary nutters.

Also, if your government has the authority to kill you or throw you in prison without charge then you probably aren't all that free in any case.

He voted for the war which was a Republican move. Now there's a Democrat in power the war is considered a Democrat issue and all the Republicans who voted for war are now pretending to oppose it. It's the automatic gainsaying of whatever the opposition is doing, even if it's your own policies they are enacting, that is the biggest problem with party politics.

Unfortunately, the flip flopping will not resurrect the many innocent lives lost nor recover the blood spilled over an ego-based lie.

Sadly, he's one of many Repubs and Dems who feel the same way, yet they will not collectively speak out about it publicly.

So you're not concerned by the fact that he changes his mind on matters of policy based on political expediency?

Both wars were Republican policy and his about-face on the matter reflects the bizarre strategy of trying to blame the current administration for decisions made years before it rose to power. One of the first things that Obama's administration did is to start winding down the occupation in Afghanistan and Iraq. Still Republicans who voted to go to war in the first place are attempting to associate both wars with the current administration.
