Optics matter. Nobody is calling these two fighters brave. HBO isn't interested in Khan or Smith for more fights. You can't get big fights when the last image of you that people remember is you stretched out laying on your back.

Now do you understand why Brook's corner threw in the towel?

HBO probably isn't interested in Khan because Haymon fighters don't fight on HBO do they? - Khan's fight with a Canelo was a one-off, some contractual thing. If Khan was a Golden Boy fighter, i'm sure HBO would show his fights still.
Why would HBO be interested in Smith? He had heart but he really holds no value for HBO. A British fighter with no real fanbase and doesn't really bring a high level of boxing. I'm sure they would be happy to have him on an undercard of a decent event with the right opponent though. At least now his name is linked with Canelo, so it's better than some complete unknown.
Kell Brook is a world class fighter who will carry on doing good things in boxing with no ties to the USA. Of course HBO will be keeping their names in the hat for his future fights.
