[PLEASE HELP] Should Foreign Aid Be Dramatically Cut/Wiped Out?

Maybe, I'm just young, but in wake of what seems like a ton of national disasters, whether it be accidental explosions, terrorist acts, or natural disasters, it seems as if that money should be going to the citizens first.

47.8b is the 2013 budget, which is actually a 6% reduction from 2012. Imagine if that 47.8b was used to feed the homeless or care for people involved in national disasters.

What are your thoughts? I personally feel it needs to stay at home. When you can't even feed or take care of everyone at home, why are you trying to take care of people abroad?

Of course it should be cut........will it? Not a chance.
We are long overdue to spend more time worrying about our fellow countrymen, and state of affairs. Let some one else solve the rest of the worlds prolems.

Foreign Aid is only a tiny amount of the total budget. But yes...it should be cut. Private aid to foreign countries is ok.

But that doesn't mean that we should "feed the homeless" and "natural disasters"....we already spend on that too. We have enough welfare, foodstamps and the like. We need to cut across the board...not transfer the tiny amount we spend on foreign aid to even more domestic spending. Cut foreign and domestic spending. Embrace Austerity and let the Free Market work.

Aid can be an investment: if it keeps a region stable and U.S.-friendly,
then U.S. business theoretically has a safer environment to make some
taxable money in, often well in excess of $$$ value of aid provided, as
well as employ U.S. Americans.

Of course, ^this assumes U.S. business:

1. can compete against Chinese/Turkish/Israeli underbidders
2. actually pays taxes
3. employs U.S. Americans

at least in terms of pct of their budget.

some west european and east asian countries donate a lot more.


if you triple, quadruple u.s. foreign aid.... the budget would barely move.

it sounds good. everyone says it because it does no harm and ignorant ppl eat it up.

we spend very little on foreign aid.

not even close to 1%.

the real drain on our budget is social security and medic aid.

cutting foreign aid is like someone who buys a ferrari but cancels his cable to save money.
