I don't know, I'd want to get it back to them. But if there is no way of identifying who's it is, hard call I guess as it's hard to know if turning it into the cops would get it back to the owner. Then again, possession of stolen property is a crime, so if you want to be clean about it you may want to turn it in. But then, the guy might get charged for stealing the items so if you are worried about any backlash from that (being known around the neighborhood as a snitch or something of that nature) than maybe consider that too. Your call. Depends on the circumstances mostly. Most people would probably keep it though (in most countries that is--in Japan lost items have a very high rate of returning to their owners, including wallets cash intact).
