Here we are in the middle of the Wladimir-Povetkin debacle.
Peter becomes the mandatory challenger.
With 3 weeks left before the fight, Peter pulls out because he injured himself in training (or become ill, he has a sinus infection, detached balls, whatever).
Holyfield jumps in, he says I'm ready, I'll fight Wladimir Klitschko.
Wladimir says alright, at least we can go forward with the event.
The day of the fight comes. They're both very cautious, but Wlad takes the center of the ring. Wladimir beats up a helpless Holyfield. People are almost turning their heads not to watch the great former champion take those shots. The ref doesn't do anything. Because his name is Raul Caiz.
Then out of nowhere, Holyfield becomes alive again ; he flurries, landing all his punches on a retreating caught by surprise Wlad. Klitschko doesn't know what to do to stop the barrage of punches. He tires to tie up, in vain, Holyfield is unstoppable.
Then the miracle happens. Holyfield has Wlad in deep trouble when he lands his trademark left hook to the chin. Wlad crumbles to the mat. He is hurt.
Wlad can't beat the count.
The battered Holyfield goes back to his corner, slowly, just like he did when he beat Tyson for the first time. The spectators are in a frenzy. The commentators are goign wild. Lampley is pissing his pants (yes, HBO picked up the fight because of Holyfield). Evander just became the oldest HW champion ever since Foreman.
He goes out in the sunset and finally retires after his great and tough career.
