  • Miranda Out of The Stieglitz FIght. Manny Siaca May Replace Him

    The Flu Knocks Miranda Out

Siacca Manny Jr. would replace him on the title fight
    BY JOSEPH A. SÁNCHEZ FOURNIER jose.sanchez @ elnuevodia.com

The Colombian Edison "Pantera" Miranda officially withdrew yesterday from an appointment with owner Robert Stieglitz, super middleweight champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), and event organizers are currently seeking a replacement opponent that can challenge the Russian 9 January in Magdeburg, Germany.

Joe Goosen, Miranda coach, told the event organizer company, Universum Box, that "Panther" is several days with an episode of influenza and may not recover in time to train properly.

"I spoke with him (Miranda) four days ago and told me he had the flu," the president of the WBO, Francisco Valcarcel Mulero. "We are talking with several (fighters) sorted to see who replaces him.

Siacca Manuel Jr., former WBA world champion at that weight, is a candidate to take over for Miranda for Jan. 9. And according to his father, coach and manager, Manny Siacca, the hard-hitting toalteño is in the right conditions for accepting the opportunity, provided that the parties reach a financial settlement.

"Manny is training, and is weighing as 173 or 174 pounds. He's ready, "said the veteran coach. "But we have another big fight on the agenda, and yet nothing is certain."

The other dish on the table Siacca son, seems to be a title fight against Australia's Danny Green, who recently knocked out Roy Jones, Jr.

The fight would be in Australia, where Siacca won the world title 168 pounds in 2004.

To bad they couldn't get or maybe didn't want Bika or Green.......if Green was to fight and win, a Miranda rematch would be a must.

Theres not much time, the fight is schdule for January 9th 2010.

Siaca even though is nothing special is a former Champ and he beat Anthony Mundine in the process. This will be a decent scrap and a good move for Stieglitz.

He has some decent names on his resume and his record would indicate he has some pop.....its too bad about Miranda, stylistically this should have been easy for him.
