yep, ineffective and dangerous. you change your whole gait pattern by wearing boots; the weight is at at different places on your foot, the heel is a different size and the support around your ankle stops you plantarflexing properly to strike the floor with the ball of your foot. in short, its unnatural and can lead to joint problems as high up as your lower back.

Running shoes are actually moving towards giving less support now, to give the impression of running in bare feet. As to how effective that is, i dont know, but running shoes are designed to give support in the right places and encourage a good gait pattern in running, so go for them

i don't know if it's effective but the shoes are cheaper to make with less padding, i think it has more to do with profit maximization than building a better shoe
