• PROOF that the 144 catch-weight is not a disadvantage for Marquez!

The last time Juan Manuel Marquez was in a boxing ring, he weighed 140 pounds. This means that he was able to pull of the knockout over Juan Diaz with the body weight of 140 obviously not 'weighing him down'.

Now, the fight is contracted to be at 144. If I'm informed correctly, this means that Marquez can weigh anywhere from 141 to 144 when it's time for him to step on a scale. If Marquez fight Floyd Mayweather at 141 pounds, what is really the difference between this and what he's been doing? You can't say that he's not comfortable at this weight.. He fought a pound below it in his last fight. All this means is that Marquez can make weight more comfortably and won't have to worry about re-hydrating as much.

The 144 catch weight is fair for Marquez, and it's unreasonable to say that it takes away from his abilities if he has to fight in that are- he already does.

That isn't my argument.. I'm moreso going at the people who say that Marquez will be 'weighed down' by the catch-weight, and will be losing his reflexes, timing, etc in the process. This aint Roy moving up to fight Ruiz. Idk what the worry is about...

And speaking on Floyd's weight- since when has he been the kind of guy to impose his physical size on somebody? He doesn't do that, so his size shouldn't really be an issue.

Except that he is a better 130 pounder than he is a 135 pounder.

And Mayweather was better at 135. So what? This has no bearing on the fairness of the fight.

Floyd doesn't usually rehydrate to a much larger weight. Floyd went down in weight overnight against Oscar. Against Hatton I think he only went up 1 pound. Floyd doesn't balloon up, he's in too good of shape.

Marquez is at a disadvantage but it aint as crazy as every1 makes it out to be...

to the TS, by fight night, mayweather will weigh at least 148lbs compared to JMM at 140lbs....

how long have you been watching boxing, kid?

sometimes I would be able to read "smart" threads.....this isnt one of them..

JMM started at 126 and Mayweather started at 130. Really this isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Two of the most skilled fighters are about to go at it, we should atleast be happy about that

                148. The weight is not as big as people make it but Floyd does have the advantage. I see both sides. Maquez vs Floyd at 140 is great because thats the weight Marquez was going to fight at anyways and Floyd would have an easier time making that weight then some of the other Welters. Floyds standpoint is he has not competed in almost two years so why risk coming in flat at a weight that is a little lower than where your last few fights have been. There is a case to be made for both sides.

I grant that it is a fair fight, I just don't particularly like it. Diaz rocked Marquez at 135. What the *** is Floyd gonna do to him at 144?

i hope you realize how 1 lbs to 2 lbs is such a BIG difference in boxing.....if its not, then money may should have agreed to a 142 lbs catchweight....

9 lbs is not a crazy disadvantage? Wow....
