Yeah, totally. Hershman only made the Super Six 168 Tournament and the Bantamweight Tournament, and was consistently dedicated to making competitive even matchups as opposed to the one-sided showcases we constantly see on HBO.

Who would enjoy that stuff?

This is absolutely astonishing news. It was only a few years ago that HBO and GBP were in cahoots and all the other promoters were complaining about it. I really wonder what the implications are going to be.

Best case scenario - HBO are going to be liberated and bold, and push for great match-ups.

Worst case scenario - this move is just going to add to the fractured nature of boxing, and we'll miss out on even more match ups, on top of the retarded GBP vs TR beef.

This is boxing, so I'm thinking we're going to get the worse case scenario.

This announcement by Hershman is just as much a verbal commitment to Top Rank as it is an exile of Golden Boy.

Arum just talked HBO into forfeiting their leverage by getting them to officially cut ties with his main competitor. He has HBO to himself at this point. If HBO can have success showing Rios, Alvarado, Allakhverdiev, Bradley, Provodnikov, and the like, more power to them. There are excellent fights in that mix, but, unfortunately, these aren't fighters that garner good ratings (regardless of how good the fight looks beforehand).

Showtime has been experiencing their best boxing and overall ratings since last year when they've been almost an exclusive GBP network and with Broner on his way it figures to only get better.

Most of the one-sided showcases we saw on HBO were Golden Boy fights weren't they? Hopefully Golden Boy will step their matchmaking up in response to all the stuff that's happening. With any luck both sides will.

If he did such a good job, the budget would have been increased over time. They hardly had a big fight on and while they did have some decent scraps, most of what showtime did from a business standpoint was just crap. They really did not deliver for the fans at all.
