Yes it has. This and the corruption within these organizations. They have lost all creditablity. I was a fan when there was only two and that was acceptible, but now the sport is deluted by groups that hold profit above the good of the boxers and the sport itself.

I don't think you can think otherwise.

First thing I hear non-fans gripe about is "what's with all of those titles?"....

As a serious fan of the sport I believe over the years the #1 problem has been big fights not being made or some of what does get made being duds or controversial.

I agree with ya Ray because I think your saying 8 weight classes, 8 champs and an appreciation that becoming a world rated contender means you are an accomplished fighter. This would attract more knowledgable fans who in turn produce the revenue to pay the fighter, trainers and managers in the sport.

Default Boxing popularity

Once upon a time, the heavyweight champ was king of the world.
Now who cares!

Put on 2-4 lbs and fight for another title.

Fight once a year and charge the fan an outrageous price.

Etc. Etc.Etc.

I'm ok with all the divisions (except strawweight) but like everyone I think there should only be one champion. Having multiple titles makes boxing look bush league.

However, those who want all the champions and divisions gone might just regret that stance that if less boxing appears on their TV. There is absolutely no doubt that networks want title fights unless you are talking about Pacquiao or Tyson.

I think so and have posed that question myself before. Too many major title belts, plus not enough major network coverage, except for occasional NBC airings and add to that a weak heavyweight division with a lack of any dominant American heavyweights and that pretty much tells you why boxing is more of a fringe sport these days.
