It's a pretty good movie. It could have been better without Bardem's CGI effects though.

None of those are top James Bond movies if we remember what made the James Bond franchise and character popular to begin with.

In fact the quality kept going down the longer it kept going from the 1990's on to the 2000's and up. You can't beat the old, over-the-top Sean Connery/Roger Moore movies, as the light PG 1960-70's 'Melodrama' feel & setting made the James Bond character what it is.

You can't put that character into present world with the new technology and expect it to flourish. The character now is pretty much indistinguishable from the Bourne and Taken characters. It's like they almost forget to include that Bond is a chauvinist ladies man/charmer and not just another high skilled Government Agent. Pierce Brosnan was passable, particularly the first two in the 90's. His last one, not so much.

As for the "highest grossing movie ever": Adjusted for Inflation?

What about amount of tickets sold in total Vs amount of theater tickets sold in the past? Now maybe you can still consider it an accomplishment that someone is willing to pay more to watch it than they did "In the old days", but it's still not expensive enough to be a liability.

um... the character now is a lot closer to Ian Flemmings novelisations which were written in the 50's and 60's, the Jason Bourne character was written in the 80's

if anything you could say Bourne was a rip off of bond, only the portrayel on film of the bourne series was more loyal.

Casino Royale was written 27 years before The Bourne Identity

I guess with like every remake or sequel after sequel franchise, they feel it needed to "get more serious" and "realistic" as it did with Batman and now Superman, compared to Christopher Reeve's Superman.

But not with Bond. The PG Melodrama and the charming, ladies man chauvinism made that character a hit. The fact that he never gets phased no matter in what jam he is in; always staying cool, calm and collected. You don't deviate from that because you feel it's gotten stale. If it has gotten stale, then stop making them. But apparently not; Skyfall was a success money wise and the criteria for judging has changed. They will make another one with CGI action that will compete with the latest "Die Hard" movie.

I saw no difference between this and the latest Taken sequel, other than Liam being a parent.
