Go to time mark 22 minutes of this video (link below) and watch what Andre Ward says: he wont fight Martinez cause Martinez asked him to go down in weight OR fight at a 164 pounds catchweight. Ward answers he cant make 160 and not even 164, but if he WOULD make it, he wouldnt be strong at that weight anymore. But at the same time he makes Dawson come down to 168?? And then Ward says he will move to light heavyweight soon. If he moves up soon, he could have fought Dawson at 175 anyways.

how slow are you ppl? ward didnt force dawson to do anything, will you ever get that through your thick skulls?
dawson wanted to move down in weight so he could make a bigger statement and become a two division champion, all ward did was accept the challenge. you dont force a champion to move up or down in weight, martinez cant force ward and ward cant force him. if you challenge a champion you go after them. ward hasnt been calling martinez or dawson out, they want him they will have to go get him. thats what dawson did, a mistake perhaps but one that cant possibly be blamed on ward. |

dawson challenged a 168lb champion at 168lbs, nothing wrong with that. he chose himself to drop down in weight so he could make a statement and win a title in a second weightclass, nothing wrong with that either. if it was a miscalculation on his part it was just that, on his part. it doesnt have anything to do with ward and cant be blamed on him in any way. we have 16 weightclasses and up to 5 "champions" in each one, wtf do we need catchweights for? you want to bury this sport? catchweights are a way to win titles in multiple weightclasses without making the necessary sacrifice. you are supposed to be at a disadvantage when you move up/down in weight to face a champion, thats what makes it so impressive when you win. catchweights is all politics, a way to manipulate the system and fool ppl you have a more impressive legacy than you really do. dawson aint about that, hes old school. he wants a challenge, he wants to make a statement. they did it the old school way, at the real limit without making a mockery of the title and the sport. dawson was the one who called ward out and as a result hes the one who went to wards weightclass, it shouldnt be any other way. |

so a catchweight is wrong cause it drains a fighter, but making a guy come down a whole weight class is suddenly right? dude you sound contradictory |
