Think of Ward. He's still boring in the beginning of his career, unlike Mayweather who was explosive, and Ward is still making a name for himself.

While this is true, you at least had to admit that Top Rank did their dues in at least attempting to make him a star, or the next "big" thing at WW.

Top Rank wasted tons of time and money promoting the bum.

-Carefully selected his opponents for sure wins

-Hefty paydays

-Probably a lot more that I'm forgetting

Now he gets knocked the f*ck out by Randal Bailey and will now most likely run to TMT with his tail tucked between his legs?

For those who don't know what happened, here's the article.

What do you think? Is this as bad as Vargas leaving Mayweather Promotions to join Top Rank?
They can't be compared. Jones wanting to leave his promoter when he has an existing contract is basically not really ethical, lacking a cordial agreement with the promoter to separate. if he's not happy, then he should fulfil his contact first, then leave. the alternative is to have any new promoter to come to terms and buy him out.

As for the guy leaving Mayweather "Promotions"... You'll notice I had the word in inverted commas. Mayweather promotions has never even had a licence and of course has never remotely promoted anything or anyone, except bull manure. Golden Balls has been doing Maywrather's "Promotions" for him, and the fighters have been paying the standard cut of whatever Golden Balls demands. Promtions Companies vary very little in their fee demands, they all do the same work, but some are better than others....So leaving Mayweather Productions to go to a top quality live promotions Co. was a very good choice.

People can criticize fighters for wanting to break contracts, but until they have a manager taking approx 33%, a promoter taking approx 33%, paying trainers' fees, and training expenses, all while they're the ones shedding blood, sweat, and tears... They won't understand.

I, and others, would try to get rid of as many of these m'fers as possible. **** what people perceive as loyalty or being grateful.

So how exactly does he know that the new promoter he's going to sign to won't do the same exact thing, or maybe even tax him worse? I know one thing, he won't get that exposure he's been getting from TR.

It's what Top Rank gets for being bad judges of talent, and hyping him up when they know he's flawed. They were grooming him as an opponent so their top guys won't have to fight harder opposition.

TMT is wasting money on legal fees and risking lawsuits trying to get him signed. At best, he'll be an opponent for the other top fighters TMT has signed.

He's got some solid skills, but not sharp enough to fight like he does.

People need to get real here.

Top Rank weren't promoting him from the goodness of their heart. Both sides use each other to make money. It's a tough career, and Jones now probably won't ever make big bucks, so I wouldn't really hold him to some idea of loyalty towards TR. If TR promoted him, it was cos they saw something in him that would make them money on their investment (possibly a Pac fight).

Saying that, whether it's wise to go from TR to TMT (as speculated) is a different point.
