How would you categorize James Toney's style?

Mostly around forums people either say that he's an inside fighter or a counter-puncher. In a way he fits both. He's a great defensive fighter and relies on counters, but he stalks his opponents and mostly fights on the inside. What do you think?

He was a master at the understated defensive style. A half inch turn of the head, shift of the shoulder, bob to the left or right. Very subtle but effective. This meant he was usually in the zone to react quickly rather than wasting energy moving in & out.

He has the old mongoose style that Archie Moore and Ezzard Charles used to use. Its allows him to walk you down while still defending against the right hand and also being in position to counter with his own right hand. In his younger years at Super middle he had the abiltiy to throw five and six punch combos from that style which is when he was at his best and one of the true elite fighters in the sport. Toney is a first ballet hall of famer and should be given his props. I hope he becomes a trainer when he's done with the ring so that someone can teach kids this style.
