Plus, a boxer can fake high and nail them with a huge bodyshot. Being a boxer myself, if theres an opportunity for me to do that, I would try that because there is little chance of an untrained brawler predicting and taking advantage of a simple boxing combination.

Of course it's effective. If ur not used to getting hit in the face ur first reaction is going to be to back up and panic, in that sense, the fight is already over before it even began.
The discipline of standing and trading, reading an opponents body language as they telegraph their wide, untrained punches and timing them efficiently is lost to the common thug.
