Cool idea and all, but we don't have the tech to do the Enterprise justice at this time. Ion propulsion instead of Warp drives? It be like putting a SOHC Civic engine in a freaking Lambo Aventador.
We'd be putting along, la-dee-da, then get assimilated by the Borg faster then you could say "Geordi La Forge."
