Steward: Briggs Most Dangerous!

Klitschko trainer says Briggs is most dangerous challenger.
Legendary trainer Emanuel Steward says the most dangerous challenger his fighter, IBF Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko, could choose for his November 11 title defense is the one his HBO counterpart Larry Merchant has claimed he would least like to see. “The only guy I told Wlad I didn’t want to fight was Shannon Briggs. Shannon is a fighter with very fast hands who can match Wladimir for size and not be out-muscled. He’s also a tight puncher. I wasn’t worried that much when Wlad fought Sam Peter. He clubs, so you can get away from his punches easier, plus he doesn’t put them together as fast and accurately. Shannon Briggs is the guy I dread the most in the entire division.” According to Steward, who has known Klitschko since his Olympic days, it’s a matter of styles that makes Briggs such a high-risk choice. “He’s the most dangerous challenger in the division because of his size and speed. He may get tired later in a fight, but if you don’t make it through the first three or four rounds, who gives a damn? When Wlad was fighting Corrie Sanders, I was watching it on TV and I was always concerned because he’s the same type of guy. Kamikaze. He’ll let it all hang out and if you’re not prepared for it…And Corrie Sanders is nowhere near as big and fast as Briggs is. (New WBC King Oleg) Maskaev was a fight everybody was trying to make, but the more dangerous fight is still with Shannon Briggs. He’s a sturdier fighter. If it does take place, it’ll be a much bigger, more dangerous fight for Wlad than Maskaev.”

I believe this is Briggs' last shot at a title, because he is getting too old. So indeed he is most dangerous at this point because I'm sure he going to go out there and bring everything he has.

But that statement from Steward gives us a clue that the unification fight with Maskaev or Liakovich is not more likely to happen.

I think thats a bad approach by steward. we all know wlad has confidence problems about his chin and steward will only make him more panicky with those statements. its better than going in over confident like he did with sanders but dont make him overly respectful of briggs or he could self destruct

i remember Mercer was doing pretty well agianst Briggs until Briggs held and hit

Briggs and Peter have the heaviest hands that pose a threat to Wlad but I think although you all may call me nuts the south paw and sometimes slick Calvin Brock may present some problems for Wlad given the chance.He has not proved to me he is vicious enough to take Wlad out yet but he could pose an interesting boxing match given the fact they are both skilled fighters and the south paw factor.

Steward is so full of it. He's supporting Wlad for looking elsewhere than unification? I say we stop supporting heavyweight title fights until they are unification bouts. Don't watch Valuev vs. Barrett or Wlad vs. Briggs, etc. This is so pathetic. Unify the belts.

Exactly! That's what you call HYPING UP the match. And as I was saying in my earllier post, that means a unification fight with Maskaev or Liakhovich is most likely not going to happen.

But then again, Briggs is really a dangerous opponent for Wlad,

be a real champ and fight the other champs!
