Miguel Cotto: "Bruseles Is Ready For Mayweather"
Miami, Fla. -- World champion Miguel Cotto came into Miami tonight and said "Henry Bruseles is top condition and is all set for Mayweather...
"I know, because I helped Bruseles get ready for the biggest fight of his life," said Cotto in a hotel lobby Wednesday night.
For the past several weeks Cotto said he got into the ring and "worked 40 hard rounds with Bruseles" to get him prepared to take on undefeated two-time world champion "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Jr. on a Top Rank boxing event Saturday night at the AmericanAirlines Arena, live on HBO from Miami.
"Bruseles is strong and has a good right hand," Cotto said. "He worked extremely hard for this fight. When he connects, and he will, anything can happen."
Bruseles and Cotto train in the same gym in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The two have the same chief trainer, Miguel's uncle Evangelista Cotto.
Daniel Jimenez, who is on the undercard, was the fighter who went into sparring as 'Prettty Boy,' making sharp, quick twists and turns and moving about. Cotto then came in to fire blistering live-fire exchanges with Bruseles during heated sparring to prepare him for close-range encounters with Mayweather.
Mayweather, 32-0, and Bruseles, 21-2-1, are fighting 12 rounds in a super lightweight eliminator.
Heavyweights Yanqui Diaz and Samuel Peter also came into town and will be at the press conference Thursday 11:30 am at Bongo's Cuban Cafe, 601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami.
