  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: No Froch vs. Hopkins, No Catch-Weight Fight

Eddie Hearn does not expect a fight between Carl Froch and Bernard Hopkins to come to pass.

Hopkins, at 48 the oldest world champion in history, said last week Froch was 'top of my wish list' despite the American now campaigning in a higher weight class.

But that difference in weight - the Briton is a natural super-middleweight - means a fight between the pair is unlikely.

And Froch also must take care of Mikkel Kessler later this month before considering his future options.

I think Froch would fight him at 168lbs, but B-Hop probably can't make it.

Before certain fans come rushing in, Froch doesn't hold a belt at 175 so it's not like he's going up cherrypicking and moving back down again to avoid anyone.

Fighting Hopkins these days is a lose lose situation

If you win ,you win ugly against a old man

If you lose everyone takes the piss for getting 'schooled' by a old man

Stopped watching b hop years ago he's good at what he does but imo its ugly

Froch fan but this is just like the Mayweather thing! Froch is a natural 168 fighter shouldn't be at 175 Floyd is a small 147 started at 130 and shouldn't be at 154/160 he has no right to be that high.

It's a lot different. It's nothing like "Just like the Mayweather" at all. Nothing alike.

Carl Froch is a Super Middleweight, and started at Super Middleweight. Going up one weight class is nothing. Fighters go up multiple weight classes all the time now a days.

Froch has stated that he would fight Pascal at 175 back then, when Pascal was champion.

Froch vs Hopkins not happening is simply because of the risk in a Hopkins fight. With a guy like Froch, a Hopkins fight is a sure loss, even at 48-49 years old. Also, if I remember correctly, Carl Froch was willing to fight Calzaghe at 175.

Froch was willing to fight Calzaghe at 175 back in the day but Calzaghe didn't want it.

He has since turned down £1m ($1.5m) to fight Cleverly at a catchweight.

Never read his comments on fighting Pascal at 175 although he did say he owes him a rematch.

Isn't Hopkins also offering a 170 catchweight? Is Froch/Hearn really that afraid of Hopkins? Didn't Calzaghe fight Hopkins (5-6 years younger) at 175 even when he could have fought him at a catchweight (seeing as Joe had never fought at 175 prior).

Lol, Froch was a nobody back then... the guy didn't win a title until Calzaghe was already retired. Instead Calzaghe fought a prime undefeated Kessler and moved up to the full 175 to fight Hopkins (who was the lineal champ). Meanwhile Froch loses to a lesser version of Kessler and then refuses to fight a much older Hopkins at a 170 pound catchweight.

Froch fans really need to stop pretending Calzaghe was "ducking" or "avoiding" Froch. lol. Carl didn't really come into the scene until 2009.

No need for all that bro, I'm well aware of the situation. It was pretty much the same as Hatton and Witter.

In weight wise it's like Floyd but Floyd fights an elusive, safety first style whereas as Froch likes to eat opponents punches so moving up in weight not such a good idea.

Best to stick to Supermiddle where there are plenty of options.

And Hopkins can piss off, the racist old ****.
