  • Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Lays High Praise on Anthony Joshua

IT was fantastic to see boxing receive royal recognition in the New Years Honours List.

Olympic champs Anthony Joshua, Luke Campbell, and Nicola Adams plus performance director Rob McCracken were rewarded with MBEs.

Hearty congratulations to all for the acclaim they have brought to our sport.

With 3½ years before the next Olympics in Rio, our elite amateurs face some important decisions.

Joshua should snub Warren and join MatchRoom when he turns pro.

Luke campbell can make a good living out of the sport, but may have to take fight outside of the UK to do so. Too many of our lighter fighters make the mistake of staying at home when there's good experiance learning overseas perticually south east Asia.

Warren mentions Broner-Rees but doesn't say zip about Burns.

Was made up for that guy when he won gold, definitely deserved it.

Not sure how his skills would transfer in the pro ranks though.

Campbell should stay in the amateurs, he's not suited for the pro ranks. Joshua, when he turns over, needs to go Stateside ASAP - better trainers & better sparring.

Jon Slowey, a Scottish prospect travelled out to Thailand this week and got some quality sparring in with the best Thai fighters. More Brits need to follow his lead, especially Satchell & Butler, our best lower-weight prospects.

Thought Cammarelle did enough in the Olympics final to get the nod.

Bit o' home brewing please waiter.

Don't mind Joshua sticking around in the amateurs for a couple of years to get some more experience, but I see not the point in competing at Rio in 16. If he gets bunked out and fails to get a medal, it is seen as regression and undermines his marketability. Just rock the European Championships then join Golden Boy if they follow through with their tease to enter the UK market.

            **** you Frank

Not convinced by Joshua, he looks like another Bruno to me, very stiff, pretty slow and poor foot and head movement.

Kind of agree you with Hitman and you might well be proved right....there's plenty of punching power, size and strength there but AJ can also look a bit clumsy/hesitant when pressed and there's more than a bit of Bruno in that bolt upright 'The Mummy Lives' style.

But.... AJ has also landed an Olympic Gold medal despite not being much beyond a novice level amateur and he's still young enough to be refined/schooled.

He's a big, old lump like Frank but I.M.O does not look so muscle-bound or potentially prone to stamina issues.

Warren clearly want AJ to sign on the dotted line and is making an early bid ....but my guess is that Eddie Hearn with his Sky contract and more modern, easy-going way of working with fighters will win the AJ signature.

Rob M or Mark/Jimmy Tibbs would be perfect for AJ. And no need to travel to America with 90 percent of the best heavyweights operating out of the UK or Germany right now. Do what Price has done and go and spar with all the top East European monsters.

Agree 100% Eddie Hearn is the top British promoter and talks sense. Can't stand Warren and really like Joshua hope he doesn't sign with him

Agreed again. Joshua seems to have a good head on his shoulders so hopefully he'd see that Warren is not the way to go...

Id like to see him go to the World Champs to gain some more experience, potentially win a gold and then go pro. Luckily he has time on his side!
