When does it come a time where a fighter destroys his legacy?

It makes absolutely no sense for people to think less of a fighter because of something that happens when they are old and shot. I don't care if they are getting knocked out in 20 seconds by the worst fighter in the world, it doesn't change what they have already done.

but guys like ali or duran who were proven time and time agains can never have their legacies destroyed
Complete nonsense, and in no way true.

I think it's impossible for a fighter to damage their legacy in the eyes of serious boxing fans. In years time, the hardcore fans will look back at, for example, Roy Jones, and they'll know these KO losses don't mean a lot... the guy fought for too long.

To the boxrec warriors, of course, Jones will be a china chinned bum to got KTFO all the time.

I think the only way to really destroy your legacy is to get caught late in your career on steroids, loading your gloves, or something like that.

[QUOTE=larryx2012;12294236]Now i know you cant erase accomplishments(titles won etc, etc)but when you start losing to club fighters and getting knocked down and out left and right year after year, does that not eventually effect your legacy??Cause now getting layed out and losing becomes part of your legacy........when does the bad effect the good on your legacy?

Roy Jones Jnr. To a lesser extent Holyfield, It was also hard to see SRR face Camacho and kinda leave a sour taste in his fans mouth, Not everyone can be Bernard Hopkins infact apart from Foreman i can't think of anyone else who has turned the clock back against a top fighter.

Its sad to watch greats fighting past there prime losing to fighters who wouldn't deserve to share the same ring with them in there prime.

GTFOH..so according to you Tarver, Glen Johnson and Danny Green are a step up above James Toney, Bernard Hopkins, Virgil Hill?

People lose common sense when trying to bash a boxer they hate.

Roy Jones was never a master technician. He depended on his speed, reflexes and athleticism; all of which deteriorate with age to win fights. Also he had to drop 20 pounds of muscle after beating John Ruiz to fight at light heavy again which also fucced with his speed and power.

Only in the eyes of a Boxrec'cer like yourself could a fighter ruin his legacy when he's well past his prime.

I know you started this thread as another cowardly underhanded way to hate on Roy Jones Jr, just like you did when you were trolling last week regarding Calzaghe's win over RJJ.

Simple as this, to a true Boxing fan say for example Calzaghe's win over RJJ get's ZERO credit. To a Boxrec fan like yourself, Calzaghe's win over RJJ simply means Calzaghe > RJJ.

We all know that unfortunately for you, history shows that All Time Greats of the Sport such as RJJ, Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson to name just a few who fought well past their primes and lost to fighters they would have murdered back in there heydays, have those losses overlooked, and their legacys remain intact, remembered as the great legends they were, and what they gave to this sport, rather than a bunch of losses against bums they lost to when they were shot to pieces.

                doesn't happen
you want shot guys to quit because they're physically in danger
that crap about "hurting their legacy" is ******ed
losing means nothing when you're shot
