Their promotion is also always a big time event. If it was Shaw or DiBella they would have had those fights in some indian casino in some small time place somewhere. I don't think they're capable of the same kind of promotions.
Arum didn't get Floyd the DLH fight. Oscar cherry picked Pacquiao.

Uhhh that's a promoter's job, Arum doesn't get paid millions of dollars for nothing, he owns the top promotional firm and this is to be expected. It's hard to be grateful when Arum starts ripping you off once you've become huge, its no secret that De La Hoya and Mayweather both made a great move financially by leaving Arum.

Just because he's old doesn't give him a pass. So it goes both ways, Arum made a boat load of $$$$ with Mayweather and Oscar, don't pretend only Mayweather and Oscar benefited from the partnership. No one owes anyone anything.

        Don King

is a ****ing scum bag Lennox Lewis hater.

He set up Lewis for the fall against Rahman and screwed Lewis against Holyfield 1.

He wanted to punish Lewis because Lewis was dominating his American Hype jobs and fighters.

Don King also wanted to get back at Lewis because Lewis extorted him and Tyson during the mid 90's, scaring the **** out of them with the Milita and forcing them to pay him upwards of 4 million dollars.

I'm not saying Arum did not make anything since it's a business. What I'm saying is could Mayweather or DelaHoya become the big stars that they are if Arum and Top Rank did not exist?

It's a two way street. You can't have one without the other.

I understand but the question is, could they have become the kind of big stars that they are if it wasn't Top Rank. Let's say DiBella or Shaw. Would they have become that big? Or would they maybe get only as big as let's say Martinez is now.

            Your thoughts.

That's my whole point of questioning. Arum and Top Rank are huge in terms of promotion compared to others.

If their contract was with someone other than Top Rank, let's even say Top Rank didn't exist and they had to deal with the DiBellas and Shaws and whatever promoter there is. Would they have reached this kind of status with the 100 million dollar promotions and such.

To answer your question, probably not. Oscar, Mayweather and Pacquiao won't be as big. Arum got them to a certain level. But when it was time to elevate them to the next step, he was the wall that prevented that as well. For example, Mayweather was under Top Rank and he was chasing De La Hoya. Arum wouldn't allow that fight to happen. Mayweather had to buy out his contract with Top Rank for $750,000. It was after he left Top Rank that he was able to get a fight with De la Hoya which elevated him to the next step. So yes, Arum turned them into stars, but that was it. No fighter wants to be just stars and no stars wants to be second best. They want to be the best. I mean, do you think Miguel Cotto would ever have fought Mayweather if he was still under Top Rank? It was after he left Top Rank that the fight finally happened.

Floyd only became a star after he left Arum, the reason he left Arum in the first place was because he was under-marketed.

Arum has been responsible for Pac and DLH, but imo they would have have risen to the top regardless.

Pacman is the 2nd biggest draw in the sport & arum robs him blind. Cotto just had a career payday that is after he left bob. The minute Pacman leaves bob, he'll get the same. Pacman fights bob pockets the lion share.
