  • Boxers who will have a huge 2012 (from prospects to current world champions)

Andre Dirrell will become world champion come 2012 & by the end of 2012 if he going to be active as he says, he'll be top 10 P4P & no.1 boxer at 168lb's (Which is probably the toughest division in the sport) IMO.

Choose you boxer, can be a prospect or a current world champion, who you think will have a huge 2012.

Don't know how I could have forgoten Canelo.
If Chavez Jr. faces actual competition he could have a great year and suprize people.
Sergio Martinez will have a great year if he can get great opponents.

Ortiz - see him beating Berto and Maidana in big rematches to kick off the year

Rios - possible move up to 140, great things to happen

Dirrell - Agree with the OP

Canelo - I expect a big year from him, but I'm curious to see him against the Kirkland/Molina winner

Martinez - if he can get decent people to not shutter in fear from the idea of fighting him

Guys who I see having a bad year

Manny Pacquiao - think the 4th Marquez fight was the beginning of the end of the Filipino icon.

Floyd Mayweather - jail sentence, might take the whole year off, hopefully he gives us at least a surprising fight late in the year

Amir Khan - Peterson beats him again, if not he'll lose again eventually in '12

Miguel Cotto - See him losing badly to somebody

i agree on all accounts save victor ortiz and floyd mayweather

if he can get out of jail within 30 days (certainly within the realm of possibility) and get a fight quickly he might be able to have two fights this year
one of them perhaps being with manny pacquiao, who he's sure to defeat and get plenty of credit along the way.

i also think victor is on the way down
he was in a war with berto. a war with maidana. both of those guys can punch. he's been stopped by floyd mayweather
he's not a fleet boxer who will be able to adjust his style as his legs slow and he begins to fight larger opponents at ww and jr mw

i think he's shaping up for a short career. he's also pretty rich at this stage with a long involvement with goldenboy.

              nice looking post, though.

i can also see bernard hopkins and shane mosley getting stopped.
it's a testament to the lack of bruisers in boxing that they have not.

their bodies are deteriorating. shane's no slickster and bernard is getting close to fifty.
the wrong guy will knock them out

canelo would stop shane. i dont think nazim richardson would allow him out there for too many rounds

any undefeated Mexican fighter with any kind of following will be a WBC "world champion" in 2012. They will get WBC belts by fighting fringe contenders from the weight division below the one they get the belt at. Then they will be allowed to make 3-4 defences against pathetic challengers. This "championship" path has been followed before.

froilan saludar is a really good filipino prospect who fights at flyweight. I can see him winning a world title next year.
