Now the single biggest remaining detriment to peace in the region is Israel, the biggest violator of United Nations Security Council Resolutions in the history of humankind.

This is very promising news, an olive branch extended by the people who have been most opposed to peace!
Promising..... yet I would not bank on it.If you remember the P.L.O.and Arafat has done this a long time ago.Yet they (Palestinians) will form another group or party to denounce the other party to make whatever peace the previous achieve obsolete.

Two sides to every story. Remember Yitzhak Rabin's assassin was a Jew.

If you want to examine Palestinian politics its not that simple.
Hamas gained popularity providing schools, hospitals and universities in a way that Fatah did not as Fatah governed as a party and did not have a charitable organisation to provide welfare.
A lot of people have been cared for by Hamas, educated by Hamas. Thats part of why they are popular.
There are groups that have a more militant stance than this in Palestine but do not garner as much support as either Fatah or Hamas.
Groups that have stopped working with the PLO, such as the PFLP, but they have been going for years and demand a one state solution. A two state solution is far more popular among Palestinians.
Also factor into the equation that Hamas stayed in Gaza, when it was still under Israeli occupation, and did not move an inch when there were negotiations on the table. Although Gaza was being handed back over to Palestinians through these negotiations Hamas stayed there and refused to take part in these talks.
What they did was provide welfare, medicine and education for those in Gaza under the occupation government at the time. This won them support and they grew the party on that.

No-one else is doing that.
So did Pablo Escobar in Colombia, doesn't make him a good guy either. Why didn't they accept these terms when they were first given?
It's all bull**** and like the other poster said, as soon as someone shows "weakness" like this, another group will rise up and take a more militant stance that is always more appealing to the people.
